Ciampino Airport: The Easiest Ways to Get into Rome
Contenidos de esta página sobre Roma
Rome Ciampino Airport, or Giovanni Battista Pastine as it's officially called, is the second most important of Rome's airports after Fiumicino. The biggest advantage of landing at Ciampino Airport is how close it is to central Rome: just 15 kilometers away.
Below we'll explain how to get into the city from the airport (and back again) using various forms of transport, but if you're after safety, efficiency and peace of mind, we recommend a private transfer.
How to Get from Ciampino to Central Rome
Train from Ciampino town

There is no train service directly from Ciampino Airport, but if you want to save money and take a chance on this quick option, here's how to do it.
As you leave the terminal, you'll find the Cotral – Schiaffini bus stop, which we cover further below. Take the bus that gets you to the train station in the town of Ciampino in under 10 minutes (ticket €1.30), and once there catch the train to Termini, Rome's most important train station, right in the center. The ride takes about 15 minutes.
Go to the Trenitalia website and enter Ciampino as the departure point (don't type Ciampino Airport, it will return an error) and Roma Termini as the destination (or any other station that works for you and is available). There you can check prices, timetables and buy your ticket.
Bus Shuttle
A fast transfer to central Rome (Termini) from Ciampino Airport for €6. It runs 365 days a year, with daily departures every 30-40 minutes.
Once at Roma Termini you can walk to your accommodation or take the metro to your hotel.
Children up to age 5 travel free.
COTRAL – Schiaffini Bus
These buses are the cheapest link (€4.90) between Ciampino Airport and central Rome, though they can run a little late.
The first departure from the airport is at 04.35, and from at 05.30. The journey takes about 40 minutes.
You buy the ticket when you board the bus or at the information desks in the airport.
Atral Bus
These buses also belong to the Gruppo Cotral mentioned above. Besides that direct bus to Termini, they offer two more options:
- Get from Ciampino Airport to Ciampino railway station, where you catch the train into central Rome. Check timetables and stations here.
- Get from Ciampino Airport to Anagnina metro station (line A), from where you can reach various parts of the city. Check timetables and stations here.
The ticket costs €2.70 and you can buy it on board or at the airport information desks.
Private Transfers Ciampino – Airport

There are private transfer services available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you'd rather land and not worry about catching the bus on time (flight delays included) or hunting for stops and deciphering timetables, a private transfer from Ciampino to your hotel in Rome is the way to go.
It's the most expensive option if you're traveling alone, but it works out cheaper if you're traveling as a group or family and fill a vehicle with 3, 4 or more people and split the cost.
It's worth it, and very convenient.
Check out the different options at the link in the button:
Taxi

As at Rome Fiumicino Airport, taxis at Ciampino licensed by the City of Rome charge a flat rate. In this PDF you can see this and other official fares.
Make sure the taxi you take at the airport or in Rome is covered by this rule, because these fares apply only to taxis licensed by the city of Rome. Look for the letters «SPQR» on the vehicle and insist on confirming the fare.
UBER
You can also use UBER from Ciampino Airport. Open the app on your phone, get an estimate for your ride, request a private car and it will be with you in minutes. No extra charges or surprises, since the system calculates everything automatically. To get started, open this link and claim €10 free.
