Villa Farnesina: Raphael’s Frescoes in Trastevere
Contenidos de esta página sobre Roma

Villa Farnesina, in the Trastevere neighborhood, is a beautiful and elegant piece of the Italian Renaissance. It was the first noble villa built outside the city walls.
What to see at Villa Farnesina

Built between 1505 and 1511, it was the first noble family villa built in the suburbs of Rome. Back then, the land where it went up, outside Rome's ancient walls, was covered with vineyards and vegetable gardens.
The legends of opulence and excess at its parties are one of the more curious footnotes in its history. The banquets held in its gardens were said to draw famous figures from royalty, the art world and even the Church.

The villa's decoration, carried out by artists of the stature of Raphael, Sebastiano del Piombo and Baldassarre Peruzzi (the same man who built it), makes this former home one of the noblest and most harmonious achievements of the Italian Renaissance.
There are guided tours, and on the second Sunday of each month you'll find concerts of Renaissance music.
