Campitelli is the Rome neighborhood you won't skip. Why? Because this is where the city's most important ruins and monuments are. Shall we take a look?
What to see in Campitelli
Visiting the Campitelli neighborhood should be right at the top of your list of things to see in Rome. Here are the most important sights in this Roman rione.
The Colosseum

The Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Palatine… this is the heart of ancient Rome.
There's no easy way to describe this part of Rome, or its history. Standing in front of monuments this old, ones you've heard about your whole life, is an incredible experience. You can hardly believe they're still here, and that some are in such good shape.
Capitoline Museums

Beyond these landmark monuments, don't miss the Capitoline Museums in Campitelli. Set on the lovely Piazza del Campidoglio, they're considered the oldest public museum in the world. The art collection here is simply overwhelming.
You'll find famous works such as the Capitoline Wolf, the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius and the bust of Medusa, sculpted by Bernini.
Few residents, plenty of visitors
Fewer than 1,000 people live in this neighborhood, making it the least populated in all of Rome. Curiously, ruins and monuments take up a huge share of its surface, and the discoveries and excavations just keep coming!
Campitelli is surrounded by the neighborhoods of Monti, Celio, Pigna and Trevi.
If you want to be right next to Rome's most important monuments, this neighborhood is your pick. Keep in mind, though, that because of the location the really good hotels are also the priciest. Even so, it's often worth paying a little more for a hotel in central Rome and enjoying the perks of being close to everything.
